Fish Tank Decorations
I think that the absolute best part about owning an aquarium is filling it with fish tank decorations. I really loved them as soon as I saw them in the store, when I was a child. I think it stems from a boyhood love of pirates. I think the popular, romanticized view of them captivates many a young one, and I was no exception. Swashbuckling, sailing the seven seas, looking for buried treasure. What's not to like about a life of adventure? And as I'm sure everyone realizes, this nautical leaning is a popular one for available ornaments.

I'm sure that the likes of Blackbeard and Calico Jack never imagined in their wildest dreams that all their wild adventures would result in a line of fish tank decorations. They are popular though. You can tell just by the sheer number of them you see around. They're usually in the form of a sunken ship with the tattered skull and crossbones flag hanging at full sail. I got one of these years before I ever got an aquarium to put it in. I enjoyed having it on my shelf all that time, and imagining what a lovable rogue I would have been had I lived a few hundred years earlier.
Of course, these aren't the only fish tank decorations available by a long shot. There are all sorts of things around. The old style diver hat that looks like a dome around the head with a cage for a front is another popular line of fish tank decorations. I enjoy those as well. They look like something out of another time, like they belong in a Captain Nemo tale or something. Even though I really have no idea if a variation is still used today or not. It very well may be.
Of all the things they could have made into fish tank decorations, I've also noticed a cute, tyrannosaurus rex around. It's only cute because it's not a real one and chasing me down, of course. I'm sure that I would be a tasty morsel, and wouldn't even manage to get very far if I tried. It is an interesting idea to put them at the bottom of the water, but that they do, and it actually works out well.
There is also an octopus available. I think that makes more sense, even if it is less endearing. They are not pretty at all. Even scaring looking, really. They have all those tentacles and must have been what ancient fisherman and sailors feared when they spoke of sea monsters.
I do have several aquariums though, with a different style for each of them. There is one with a darker sort of leaning to it. I could put one of those in there. I think there is a way of design out there that makes any fish tank decorations fit into it well. It just depends on what it is you are trying to accomplish with yours.
